My Family Farm: Tip #2 (Family Jobs Pt. 2)

The FarmVille 2 team wants you to be prepared for the release of My Family Farm! We discussed Family Jobs in our previous Tips post and now we’re going to explore those a little more.

We will be sharing tips like these in the weeks leading up the release of My Family Farm on 7/3.

Family Jobs Part 2:

Last time we talked about how your sweetheart could learn to do jobs around the farm, like Crop Care, but this time we wanted to tell you a little bit about why these jobs are so great, and give you a sneak peak at what a couple of them do.

The Crop Care Family Job works a lot like what you get from Farm Hands in that you can have your sweetheart Water, Fertilize, Speed Grow, or Harvest any crops on the farm, and they won’t use any of your Water, Fertilizer or Speed Grow to help you. But the big difference is that Crop Care gives you a whole lot more help than a Farm Hand, making them really great partners on your farm!

“The first farming job your sweetheart can learn is Crop Care.”

You can help them learn other farming jobs that go way beyond what Farmhands can do, like Tree Care, where your sweetheart can water, fertilize or speed grow trees, and Baby Animal Care where they’ll be able to give Milk Bottles to raise up baby animals on your farm!

Finally there are three new farming job areas on your farm, like the Cave, where you can explore to find new rare resources to craft extremely valuable items to sell at your Market Stall or through the Big Harvest Order Board.

Today marks 5 years since FarmVille took the world by storm. To celebrate the hundreds of millions of players that have helped shape FarmVille into what it is today, we’re proud to kick off the “Summer of FarmVille”. Starting this month and throughout the summer, Zynga is rolling out special presents for players to unwrap across FarmVille, FarmVille 2 and FarmVille 2: Country Escape. Get ready to help us blow out the candles with these exciting new features across all your favorite FarmVille games:

The Dog Days of Summer in FarmVille 2: Country Escape:

Exciting new farmhands are sniffing their way into FarmVille 2: Country Escape. Later this month, you will be able to place a doghouse on your farm and use dogs such as a Border Collie and German Shepherd to retrieve premium goods as they wag their way through the farm adventures like Merryweather Mine and Pike’s Landing.

You will also soon be albe to craft delicious recipes in a summer cook-off to earn special in-game items. In celebration of the summer cook-off, and for the first time in FarmVille history, we’ll be sharing real-world recipes inspired by FarmVille 2: Country Escape. Recipes will be released on this blog starting next week, so stay tuned for more.

Wedding bells are ringing this summer in FarmVille 2. Starting June 26th, you can start your own family with the introduction of My Family Farm. Customize your own virtual sweetheart and use their help to collect water, baby bottles, super feed and other valuable items.

Go Cave Exploring With My Family Farm!

My Family Farm comes to FarmVille 2 on 6/26! In the upcoming addition, you’ll have family that can explore an all new area: the cave. Alex, My Family Farm’s Senior Producer, took a few minutes to explain some of the ideas behind the cave’s development.

Designing the Cave

“From early on in the development of the Family Farm concept, we decided that we wanted to have new areas for your family members to explore and find valuable and rare items to craft with. And when you think valuable and rare, probably one of the first thing you think of is precious metals, which is how we arrived at the idea of doing a cave that you could explore.

Early sketches of a cave focused on creating something that looked mysterious but not too scary, natural, and didn’t take up a lot of space on the board (as we know space is at a premium for so many players).”

“Concept #1 below, with grass growing over the cave entrance, won over the other approaches.”

“After a direction was agreed upon, we decided to tackle a location for the new area. The concept was actually pasted over a screen shot of a real farm to make sure it fit with the rest of the game and that it fit well.”

“With the look and location picked out, the concept group began to finalize the look of the exploration cave, arriving at this color concept. Right away in the color version the team realized that the natural looking cave we had hoped to get was looking a little too man-made. The rock walls looked too much like stones, making the cave look more like the entrance to an ancient ruin than a natural cave you would explore to find precious metals.”

“So we literally went back to the drawing board and took another pass on the cave to make it look more natural, and they succeeded with the color sketch below.”

My Family Farm: Tip #1 (Family Jobs)

My Family Farm is just around the corner! FarmVille 2’s upcoming addition expands the role of your farmer, giving you a Family that can be taught to help out around the Farm.

As we discussed before you’ll all live together happily in the Family Farm House. So, even though your Farming Family will use their own resources while they’re working, they’ll still benefit from your help.

We will be sharing tips like these in the weeks leading up the release of My Family Farm on 6/26. This is just the first!

Family Jobs:

Members of your Farming Family need two things in order to do the farming jobs you teach them: Meals and Energy.

Items made in the Crafting Kitchen are used to create Meals. Your sweetheart needs to eat a certain number of Meals before they can do the jobs you’ve taught them. This number is displayed in the lower-right corner of the job’s icon.

“Crop Care takes six Meals to do the job.”

Jobs also require Energy. At the top of the Family Jobs menu, you will see two blue Energy Bolts. That means your sweetheart has two Energy, so they can do two farming jobs.

Why are there little lock icons next to the blue energy bolts? Well, that’s because as your sweetheart learns more and more farming jobs, they become farming experts and unlock more energy to help around the farm.
